Game Audio Brunch
TLDR: I created a gathering space for video game audio professionals. I identified a gap in the local community, conceived the format, grew the audience, and established a recurring brand presence within a niche creative industry.
I had decided to pursue making sound effects for games.
There was a whirlwind of leaving my job, asking friends of friends for intros, learning at a rapid pace, and then attending the annual conference for video game audio, Game Sound Con.
I was suddenly surrounded by hundreds of people who had the career that I wanted, but I was among hundreds of faceless hopefuls vying for their attention.
The conference had a mobile app with scheduling, information, and a list all attendees. I created a Partiful invite, and messaged everyone who attended who lived in LA with the link.
It was a post conference brunch at my house, and about 40 people attended.
I knew I had something special.
Since then, I’ve done about one every three months or so. Networks have been built, projects have been collaborated on, and jobs have been awarded.
Hosting is in my DNA. Myself and my roommates host about 7 events a month. Game nights, BBQs, wine tastings. There’s something really special about bringing people together into your space to share time, expertise, or passion.
BTW, if you’re in LA and are a game audio professional, or you just wanna hang out with some, sign up on the mailing list and be notified of my next one!
